ny.eater.com – — As expected, Char No. 4 closed on Sunday night after seven years on Smith Street. Owner Sean Josephs tells the Commercial Observer that business started to drop off in 2013. The restaurateur also notes: “I think the demographics have changed a lot—a lot of people who were here were pushed out not by higher commercial rent but by higher residential rent.” Another Smith Street stalwart, The Grocery, took its final bow last month, but the owners plan to host private parties in the space after the summer.
