When it comes to New York’s trophy towers, the city’s mega-spenders are willing to dish out many, many millions — and in some cases, billions — to get their hands on these prized possessions.
This year has already seen a handful of these larger-than-life deals. In May, Scott Rechler’s RXR Realty closed on the historic Helmsley Building for $1.2 billion. Less than five months later, SL Green closed on its $2.6 billion purchase of 11 Madison Avenue from the Sapir Organization. The sale of the 2.3 million-square-foot Art Deco office tower marked the most expensive single-building transaction in the city’s history.
