Whole Foods could be Hudson Yards’ first grocery store

therealdeal.comWhole Foods is considering opening a store at Brookfield Property Partners’ 5 Manhattan West, a move that would make it Hudson Yards’ first grocery store.

The grocery chain is in early-stage talks to take 50,000 square feet on the ground floor of the office building, Crain’s reported. Whole Foods has been interested in the space for several months but recently started ramping up its negotiations.

In 2013, Hudson Yards nearly got another grocery store. Fairway had planned to take 50,000 square feet at 10 Hudson Yards, which is being built by the Related Companies and Oxford Properties. The now-bankrupt chain, however, ultimately backed out of the deal due to financial issues. Instead, restaurateur Danny Meyer took the space.
