esquire.com – The mollification of Bernie Sanders continues apace within the Democratic Party. For example, I would buy a ticket to any platform committee hearing that includes Cornel West.
But the inclusion of Bill McKibben makes me curiously sad; McKibben just seems to be one of those vital people whose best work is done outside the system, and particularly outside the most banal parts of the system—which is to say, things like a party’s platform committee. It’s like going into City Hall and encountering Sewer Commissioner William Lloyd Garrison. But, if McKibben thinks he can do some good, and if it keeps the party from a four-day pie-fight in Philadelphia, I suppose it makes sense.
